Château des Coccinelles Alcohol-Free Wine — De-alcoholized, Still, and Sparkling Chardonnay

An alcohol-free wine is a wine from which alcohol has been removed after vinification, to fall below the threshold of 0.5% vol. At Château des Coccinelles, a family estate and independent winegrower in Domazan, in the Gard, our range of alcohol-free wines starts with vines grown organically, vinified according to the rules, then gently de-alcoholized to preserve the fruit and freshness of the Chardonnay. The result: wines at 0% vol., available in a still version (Cuvée Zéro - Chardonnay) or sparkling (Cuvée Zéro - Bulles de Chardonnay), and a discovery box to taste both. Since de-alcoholization does not allow for organic certification to be retained on the finished product, we state it frankly: our alcohol-free cuvées start with organic grapes, but are not sold as organic wines.

Why choose alcohol-free wine?

The reasons for choosing alcohol-free wine are as varied as its drinkers:

Alcohol-free wine or classic wine: what's the difference?

Alcohol-free wine retains the essence of a classic wine — the grape variety, the terroir, the aromas — but loses some of the body that alcohol brings to the palate: this is why our cuvées focus on freshness and pleasure rather than power. In terms of calories, alcohol-free wine is significantly lighter (17 kcal / 100 ml compared to approximately 80 kcal for a classic wine). In terms of price, expect to pay between €12 and €15 per bottle depending on the cuvée, a price comparable to a classic wine of the same range.

The Alcohol-Free Range

Three ways to enjoy the estate's alcohol-free Chardonnay:

  • Cuvée Zéro — Still dealcoholized Chardonnay, 0% vol., €12.
  • Coccinelles Zéro Bulles — the same Chardonnay made sparkling, 0% vol., €15.
  • ZERO Duo Set — one bottle of each, €25 instead of €27.

Each bottle: 75 cl, 17 kcal / 100 ml, best served chilled between 6 and 8 °C.

What is alcohol-free wine?

A non-alcoholic wine is a wine from which alcohol has been removed after vinification, to bring it below 0.5% ABV — the threshold below which a wine can be labeled as "non-alcoholic". A residual trace remains, in no way comparable to the alcohol content of a classic wine.

Who drinks non-alcoholic wine?

Alcohol-free wine appeals to a wide audience: pregnant or breastfeeding women, athletes, drivers, people in sobriety or Dry January, and simply wine lovers who appreciate the taste without the effects of alcohol.

Does non-alcoholic wine taste the same as regular wine?

What is the difference between Cuvée Zéro - Chardonnay and Coccinelles Zéro Bulles de Chardonnay?

Cuvée Zéro is a still Chardonnay, with no bubbles. Coccinelles Zéro Bulles is the same dealcoholized Chardonnay, to which food-grade carbon dioxide is added after dealcoholization to restore its effervescence.

Are these organic wines?

The base wine comes from vines on the estate cultivated using organic farming methods. However, the dealcoholization step, given current regulations, does not allow for the preservation of certification on the finished product: our alcohol-free cuvées start from organic grapes but are neither sold nor certified as organic wines.

How many calories are in these alcohol-free wines?

17 kcal per 100 ml, making them low-calorie beverages: by removing alcohol, which is very high in calories, you get a much lighter drink than a classic wine.

How should these wines be stored and served?

Serve well chilled, between 6 and 8°C, in a flute for the sparkling version. Drink young to enjoy their freshness. After opening, recork and keep refrigerated, consume within 1 to 3 days depending on the vintage.
